The Fort Garland Museum, 29477 Highway 159, will be the base, a summit attempt of Blanca Peak (led by Chris Davenport, world famous mountaineer), a tour of the Sand Dunes, a hike to Zapata Falls, a bison tour of the Zapata Ranch, birding at San Luis Lakes State Park, and a cultural tour of San Luis and surrounding area.
Saturday, Aug. 29
7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
A day of fun-filled activities, hikes, and tours. There will be a "chuck wagon" style dinner from 3-5 p.m. and bluegrass music from 4-9 p.m. featuring "Head for the Hills." The event is to raise awareness and funds for the restoration of Como Lake. Recreational events are free. Dinner and music $15. Children under 12 are free.
